Weekend Read: "How Data Analytics is Changing Film Packaging, Financing, and Distribution"
And by "read" I mean "watch"
I’m still playing around with the types of articles I’ll be posting here on Getting to Greenlight, but you can assume I’ll include a bit of Slated-related logrolling every once in a while. This is one of those posts: Slated’s Head of Development, the incomparable Greg Gertmenian, did a webinar this week that I can’t recommend highly enough. It’s called “How Data Analytics is Changing Film Packaging, Financing, and Distribution,” and somehow he threaded the “entertaining + wonky” needle like it’s nbd.
The link is below.
If you don’t give a hoot about Slated but are interested in how good clean data and cutting edge algorithms can give you an edge as a film financier, this is for you.
If you ever wondered how Slated’s platform helps filmmakers put their projects together, this thing is definitely for you.
And if you had no idea Slated did any of that, this thing is absolutely for you.
(Full Disclosure: Greg’s one of my best friends, allowed me to co-found Spec Scout with him, and is on the short list for “Nicest Guy in Hollywood” every year.)
My favorite bit is something I’m pretty sure he ad libbed. At the risk of butchering his phrasing and delivery, the essence was this:
You would never let a homeowner suggest what comps to use for their own house. Why would you rely on a filmmaker to suggest comps for their own project?
Indeed. Enjoy:
