Welcome to Getting to Greenlight!

I’m going to use this space in three ways:

  • To think aloud about what it takes to be a competent film financier;

  • To develop a community of people with the same goal (getting projects greenlit, or at least making progress toward production); and

  • To share some of what we’ve learned in our 25 years in and around the entertainment business, including our time representing writers as TV Lit agents (and later lit managers) and helping build Slated, the platform that matches filmmakers and their projects with film investors.

Tbh, that first bullet is most important to me, and I reserve the right to jettison the other two. I expect to post once a week on average, but given how tough it was to compile The Scoggins Report after I joined Slated, you can expect me to go dark from time to time.

I’ll be doing a mix of free and paid posts, with the paid stuff oriented around information and insights that active film financiers (or soon-to-be active film financiers) can use to make better greenlight decisions.1

So if you’re interested in hearing what I have to say on the regular, and especially if you’d be chiming in from time to time, I’d love to have you join me, paid or not.

An early subscriber suggested I make the paid version available for free to film school students, which was a terrific idea. If that describes you, email me and ask for The Student Discount (which is and will always be 100%).
